The Giant of Asia is still around. While economists and social scientists have
predicted the demise of Maoist China since the late 1980's it refuses to
die thanks to an absurd symbiose between a Communist system and capitalist
free ports.
Money pouring in from the the ultracapitalist ports of Macao, Shanghai and
Hong Kong
seem to give a life sustaining injection into the Communist government
every time it seems to be on the brink of collapse.
Shortlived bursts of student protests are crushed with terrifying regularity,
but in the jaded 2020's noone really cares.
Another source of income for the Chinese Republic comes from supplying
arms to various left wing guerillas across the world in exchange for gold,
electronics and luxury items.
