When The Collapse hit the US of A one of the emerging forces of authority
turned out to be a coalition of the extremist Christian New Calvinist
Initiative and the Seattle-based Board of Public Health.
The armed forces of the Board absorbed
the Christian Militia, forming a force of some 50000 armed men that kept things
reasonably calm.
As the Collapse continued the NCI and the Board decided to form a new nation
under
their own control. Gods Country was born.
It consists of the former American
states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and North Dakota.
The basis of this new country was a
perverse cross between fundamentalist Christianity and a single minded fixation
on health. The Surgeon General is the figure head of this regime and is rumored to
be a Kildare-class 'borg suffering from cyberpsychosis.
His declaration that "Disease is a Crime" is legendary.
Politically GC is fiercely isolationistic and conservative beyond belief.
"Bad language, pornography, adultery, drug-use and bad music" are all crimes
punishable with death. A lucrative, if dangerous,
smuggling of smut, rock 'n roll and drugs appeared over night.
Would be smugglers should note that death by medical experiment is a common
execution method in God's Country.
