In 1963 the referendum caused the merger of North and South Rhodesia and South
Africa (corresponding to Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa in our world),
thus creating Greater Rhodesia. As in our world this Rhodesia was a state
operating under the apartheid system until 1989 when it was removed. And,
yet again,like in our world Nelson Mandela was elected president. But unlike
our
world,the various factions in the area were far more violent. The
ultra right wing Boer Nationalists and the ultra leftist Pan African
Revolutionary
Committee made themselves known, but they were not alone. Many minor
groups kept a killing score too. Tribal nationalists, fanatic Christians,
Moslems and what not...
This situation deteriorated further, and in 2015 the nation exploded in a full
scale civil war. This raged on for 5 more years, severely hurting the nations
economy, infrastructure and people.In 2020 a successful offensive by
the Federal
Government managed to gain control of several of gold and diamond mines. Using
the resources from the mines the Federal Government hired ALL of Militech's and
Lazarus soldier for the sum of 10 Billion E$. Some 350000 professional soldiers
backed by the most modern military hardware soon proved too much for any
opposition and by 2022 Greater Rhodesia was in a state of peace.
Today Greater Rhodesia is a nation struggling to rebuild itself from the ruins
and this proceeds rather well, supported by the great nations vast natural
resources and high level of education. Some areas are still in the hands of
one
guerilla group or another,but all conurbations and industrial areas are safely
in government hands, but traveling too far out in the country is not
advisable.
